The election of the new executive committee members was completed at the AGM held on 14 Sep 2012. Congratulations to the new team who is ready to continue the proud traditions of SSCAA:
A big thank you for the outgoing ex-com members who had done a great job over the year!
To see who is entitled to vote :
Clause 2, p. 5 defines “Voting Member” as an ordinary member or a life member for the time being of the Association who has paid up his Membership Subscription. so, only ordinary or “ordinary” life members can be voting members.
Clause 9, p. 6 defines the different categories of membership. (e) and (f) are Ordinary and Life Membership respectively.
Clause 31 – every voting member shall have one vote.
Clause 32 p. 9 provides that a Voting Member shall not have any voting right at any meeting if he has not paid his entrance fee or annual subscription fees to the Association for the year in whcih the meeting is held seven clear days prior to such meeting. so, as most memberships expired in August, we might have a small electorate BUT
by clause 8, save as otherwise determined by the Exco no member shall be entitled to enjoy the rights attached to his membership until he shall have paid his Entrance Fee, Membership Subscriptions etc.
by clause 2 p. 5 “Membership Subscription” means such sum(s) of money payable annually in each calendar year by an ordinary member etc… as the Exco may from time to time prescribe.
since we decided to extend all current memberships until the conclusion of AGM, there is no question of any overdue subscriptions.
Exco — Clause 35 p. 9 provides that the management of the affairs of the Association shall be vested in the Exco which consists of President, 2 VPs, Hon Sec, Hon Treasurer, Imm. Past Presdient, and not more than 10 members.
Votes – Clause 31, every voting member shall have one vote, whether on a show of hands or on a poll.
Clause 33 – on a poll, votes may be given either personally or by proxy.

Here are the further comment from our Honorary Secretary:
I am absolutely shocked at the accusation made by Charlie, in particular the following which appears at 20:43:
The fact of the matter is that there was no opposition from Exco as to generous donation. We were very grateful for a substantial donation. However, it was Charlie himself who said that the donor did not specify whether his donation was to be used for any specific activity. The matter was then left to Charlie to come up with budgets for all sporting events, after which it would be possible to discuss how and to which activities the donation would be earmarked. (2nd Exco Meeting on 3 October 2011)
At the next Exco meeing (7 November 2011) Charlie had still not prepared a budget for all the activities under his responsibility.
It was only at the 4th Exco Meeting (5 December 2011) that Charlie had the budget, and allocation, and reported that the donor supported the donation to be used for sporting events including football and basketball. This still being unclear, Charlie was asked whether the donor wanted to have his donation earmarked for sports and the newsletter.
It was on the 5th Exco Meeting (9 January 2012) that Charlie finally had the allocation and confirmation from the donor, and then there was further discussion in subsequent meetings about how that should be treated in the books.
These meetings were all minuted. I attach relevant extracts from such minutes which shows clearly that there was no opposition, just that we wanted to make sure that the money so generously provided would be used according to the wishes of the donor.
I am also extremely disappointed that Charlie would resort to making personal attacks against Arthur, accusing Arthur of wanting to be President just to get a name (recognition). This accusation is unjust, being based on only Arthur’s temporary absence from SSCAA Exco. This is not the SSC spirit “to live good lives and to be true, in everything we do or say”.
Grateful if you could help to clarify if there are any queries.
Best Regards
Robert
Dear Alumni
I am Arthur Chow (Class of 87), current Vice President of St. Stephen’s College Alumni Association (SSCAA). On behalf of our team, I would like to share our intention to run for 2012-13 executive committee election.
I have served the SSCAA for 7 years in total of which about 3 years were at a Vice President capacity. Most recently, I was responsible for Communications in charge of revamping our Facebook page, website and newsletter which received a lot of positive feedback. Together with the support from my running teammates, past presidents and teachers, I am confident that I am the right President candidate to unite the St. Stephen’s community and lead SSCAA for the new term.
We aim to bring our passion and professionalism in uniting SSC alumni. We are an experienced team with 6 out of 10 members being a member of the executive committee or sub-committee member of SSCAA.
Our team includes
Arthur Chow (87) for President
Augusto King (82) for Vice President
Mimi Yuen (90) for Vice President
Yvonne Au (84) for Hon. Treasurer
Timon Shum (88) for Hon. Secretary
Randy Lee Ka Chung (85) for ex-com member
Gordon Yen (87) for ex-com member
Sally Keung (87) for ex-com member
Daphne Ng (87) for ex-com member
Karrie Lui (90) for ex-com member
While we aim to carry on the proud traditions of SSCAA, we would also like to introduce new ideas and events to broaden our membership by reaching out to the younger alumni. Through the use of technology and social media, we plan to improve communications to our alumni and friends of the St. Stephen’s community such as current staff and former teachers. We will also plan to organize more events that are tailored to different demographic segments as a way to encourage participation.
The support we have received so far since our announcement to run has been tremendous. This includes teachers and Presidents that you may know (http://sscaa2012.blogspot.hk/p/quotes-and-support.html). We hope that we could also get your support by voting for us at the AGM on 14 SEP 2012 and hope that you could make it in person. If you are unable to attend but like to provide your support to our team, please contact art_chow@yahoo.com.hk
Together with your support, we believe that our team can truly make a positive difference!
