Dear alumni,

Thank you for completing the SSCAA Private Label Credit Card survey in July 2008. The survey result is posted on the SSCAA’s web site (http://www.sscaa.org/news/Summary_CreditCardSurvey_20080714.pdf). I would like to share with you the latest project development.

The survey result was analyzed and discussed at the July 2008 Alumni Development Subcommittee meeting, with a recommendation to proceed. However, at the 1st meeting of the 2008-2009 Executive Committee in September 2008, after careful consideration of the recommendation and the changing economic circumstances, the Executive Committee decided to put the project on hold until a later more suitable time.

The decision was a hard one as we believed that the Private Label Credit Card could bring a needed sense of belonging and pride to the alumni community. However, as the program leader for the project, I have observed that the economy is heading to challenging times, and together with the Bank’s demanding terms & conditions, I feel that the Association could better focus its resource in building the networking and supporting among our alumni, instead of additional financial consideration for our alumni. As such, I made the recommendation to the Executive Committee to hold. When a more suitable opportunity arises, I will re-initiate the discussion, and I look forward to your continual support in the future.

The Alumni Association is pleased to announce that a new Executive Committee for the 2008-2009 Term of Office has been elected at the AGM successfully held on Friday, 15th August, 2008. (See photo attached.)
The AGM President’s Report is available to all alumni via the “Files-for-Download” section, and the full document of the AGM Minutes is accessible by Association’s members via the “Members-Only” section on the Alumni Community Directory.

The Government is increasing the number of English classes available with subsidized schools. How will this affect schools using Chinese as the teaching language, and DSS schools ?

The Association is considering to issue a private label credit card. The card is intended to enhance the identity of the alumni community, and to be used to support fund raising effort towards the benefits of the students and/or the school.
The Association sought the view of fellow alumni towards this project through a web survey. Result of the survey will be used in the decision making process.

The College’s policy in regulating use of premise has been changed. Under the new policy, College’s facilities are open for public rental–including dormitories, halls, chapel, classroom, swimming pool, sports facilities, fields and equipments. Please refer to the College’s website for more and latest detail on facilities, rental fees, hiring method and payment method.
A new set of “Rental Fees of School Facilities”for the Alumni Association has been put in place by the College (dated 6 June 2008).

We are very proud that our mens team (named St. Stephen’s College Alumni Association) won 2nd place in the HAYS Gold Bowl (金碗). Our women’s team (named St. Stephen’s College, Stanley) won the hearts of all our team members despite the lack of award. Please visit www.sscaa.org for more photos.

The 2007 SSCAA AGM report described 2007-8 as an important transformation year when we would have the opportunity to realize the objectives we set out in our strategic plan. In this report, we are pleased to share  our Association’s achievements in delivering the promised values.

The Alumni Association and fellow Prep School alumni posted a congratulatory ad in today’s Sing Tao News, Education Section, page F2.

The new school complex of SSCPS was named the Ho Leung Kit Ting Building. The article was featured in Ming Pao News on Wednesday, 23 April 2008.
