St Stephen’s College Development Plan St Stephen’s College is entering a new and exciting phase of development, with the unveiling of a Development Plan which aims to preserve our historic buildings, whilst expanding the campus facilities to cater for the future needs of the school community.
On 8th August, 2009, when Dr. Raymond Ch’ien Kuo Fung, introduced the College’s plan for building and restoration works on campus to representatives from the Alumni Association, PTA, staff and friends of SSC, he highlighted the Council’s commitment to modernizing and increasing the facilities for staff and students at the historic Stanley campus. The plans were well-received and the audience felt encouraged to respond with constructive suggestions and comments on the designs of the new buildings.
As Dr. Ch’ien pointed out, St Stephen’s College became a Direct Subsidy Scheme School in 2008, providing it with more flexibility in the curriculum, and now is the right time to review the school facilities to support these changes. There is a greater demand for a more international programme, and, as such, the College will need sufficient and suitable hardware. The Master Plan aims to create a better teaching and learning environment for both local and international students.
The Master Plan encompasses two phases:
Initial Phase
- Restoration of Bungalows No. 3 and No. 4
- Building of a New Student Dormitory
- An additional level with nine extra classrooms on Centenary Building
- Upgrading of the Big Field (Should resources be available)
Future Phases
- Redevelopment of the Leung Kau Kui Student Centre and Alex Au Building into a Junior Teaching Block
- Conversion of the Classroom Block to accommodate a canteen, new staff rooms and ECA rooms, etc.
- Staff Quarters
In planning this expansion of facilities, the Council have concentrated on teaching and learning; the traditions and heritage of the College, and ensured the design of each building project is environmentally friendly
